Founded in Taiping and still practising from Jalan Kota, Toh Theam Hock & Co is one of the oldest legal establishments operating in Perak. Thirteen lawyers and more than a hundred support staff act for homebuyers, developers and seventeen banking institutions from six offices across Perak and Penang.
The firm
Toh Theam Hock & Co was founded in Taiping in 1958 and has practised continuously from Perak ever since — through the transition to independence, the land reforms, and six decades of the state's property market.
That longevity is the firm's working advantage. Conveyancing in Perak is a matter of knowing the land offices, the developers and the bank officers personally. Files that stall elsewhere move here because someone at the firm has run the same transaction several hundred times before.
The practice today is led by four partners and spans conveyancing, banking and finance, corporate and commercial work, and family and estate matters. More than 50,000 clients have been served since the doors opened.

In addition to the Personal Data you provide to Toh Theam Hock & Co. directly (i.e. during your communications with Toh Theam Hock & Co. and/or when you engage Toh Theam Hock & Co. to provide services), Toh Theam Hock & Co. may also collect your Personal Data from a variety of sources, including without limitation at any events, conferences, seminars or talks organised or sponsored by Toh Theam Hock & Co.
3. The provision of your Personal Data is voluntary. However, if you do not provide your Personal Data, Toh Theam Hock & Co. may not be able to (i) communicate with you; (ii) provide you the services you require; or (iii) process your Personal Data in connection with any internship, pupillage or employment opportunities with Toh Theam Hock & Co.
4. Toh Theam Hock & Co. may use and process your Personal Data for the purposes relating to the services you have requested and for the business activities of Toh Theam Hock & Co. which shall include, without limitation: (a) to communicate with you; (b) to respond to questions and comments from you; (c) to assess your suitability for internship, pupillage or employment; (d) for internal administrative purposes; (e) to provide information to regulatory and governmental authorities in order to comply with statutory and government requirements, including disclosure to the Unclaimed Money Management Division of the Accountant General's Department of Malaysia ("AGD") of your information as required pursuant to the Unclaimed Moneys Act 1965 and its attendant regulations in the event of any unclaimed monies on your part; (f) for Toh Theam Hock & Co. to comply with its obligations under law, including compliance with laws relating to evidence; and you agree and consent to Toh Theam Hock & Co. using and processing your Personal Data in the manner as identified in this Notice.
5. Toh Theam Hock & Co. may also use and process your data for other purposes such as: (a) to send you materials such as newsletters, articles, write-ups as well as other updates; (b) to distribute information or details of events, seminars, conferences and talks which may of interest to you; (c) to send as potential referees to (i) editors/researchers in ranking legal publications and journals; (ii) potential clients who request for referees of past work in requests for proposals, tenders, submissions; by way of email or mail.
6. If you do not consent to Toh Theam Hock & Co. processing your Personal Data for the purposes listed in Section 5, please notify Toh Theam Hock & Co. using the contact details stated in Section 11 below.
7. As Toh Theam Hock & Co.'s information technology storage facilities and servers may be located in other jurisdictions, your Personal Data may be transferred to, stored, used and processed in a jurisdiction other than Malaysia. Further, your personal data may be transferred out of Malaysia for the purposes as described in Section 5(c) where such ranking legal publications and journals and/or potential clients are located outside of Malaysia. You understand and consent to the transfer of your Personal Data out of Malaysia as described herein.
8. Toh Theam Hock & Co. may engage other companies, service providers or individuals to perform functions on Toh Theam Hock & Co.'s behalf, and consequently may provide access or disclose to your Personal Data to the following third parties (who may be located outside of Malaysia and/or use and process your Personal Data outside of Malaysia) (not exhaustive): (a) information technology (IT) service providers; (b) data entry service providers; (c) storage facility providers; (d) banks and financial institutions; (e) insurance providers; (f) any professional advisors and external auditors; (g) regulatory and governmental authorities in order to comply with statutory and government requirements, including to the AGD for the purposes as described in Section 4 above.
9. We are committed to maintaining the security of your Personal Data in accordance with the data security requirements under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA), as well as our internal policies.
10. We process your Personal Data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes stated above, and thereafter for as long as we are required to do so under the relevant statutory limitation periods, applicable laws and regulations, as well as our internal policies. Where the Personal Data is no longer required for the purposes stated above or the relevant legal requirements, we will delete the personal data.
11. Subject to any exceptions under applicable laws, you may at any time hereafter request: (i) for access to your Personal Data (ii) for correction or rectification of your Personal Data; (iii) to limit the processing of your Personal Data; or (iv) to seek further information from Toh Theam Hock & Co. regarding the processing of your Personal Data by contacting the firm at its Taiping office.
12. In respect of your right to access and/or correct your Personal Data, Toh Theam Hock & Co. has the right to refuse your requests to access and/or make any correction to your Personal Data for the reasons permitted under law, such as where the expense of providing access to you is disproportionate to the risks to your privacy.
